:WORLD WAR III
:A TDBS 1.2 Game
:A STAINLESS STEEL SOFTWARE Production
:Written by Mark L. Chambers
:version 1.0
:Description:
:::::::::::::
WWIII is a solitaire wargame played against the computer, rather like a
game of old-fashioned BATTLESHIP - however, in this game you'll be using
the latest high-tech nuclear weaponry, and your goal is to save as many
lives as possible among your citizens! The game also includes a series of
random events that may hinder or help your cause.
Here's a partial listing of the features offered by WWIII:
o Complete Player Control. Your players name their own countries, decide
how and where to place their offensive and defensive weaponry, and even
elect when to take a chance on a random event.
o Automatic Maintenance. WWIII is easy to install and maintain, with
automatic end-of-month processing for the Top Ten scoreboard. Previous
monthly scores can also be displayed. Registered owners can also
configure the number of plays to allow each user per day.
o Full Online Help. An ANSI reader (with paging support) displays the
complete player documentation from the Main Menu.
o Colorful Full-Screen ANSI Displays. WWIII is both colorful and fast,
requiring minimal screen updates. A real-time ANSI graphical display
and colorful dialogs make WWIII as attractive as it is easy to play!
:Installation:
::::::::::::::
1. Create a directory for WWIII. I suggest you place it below your \TBBS
directory. As an example, if your \TBBS directory is located on Drive
C:
MKDIR C:\TBBS\WWIII
2. Copy the files from your distribution archive into this new directory.
3. Add an entry to your .SDL file to run WWIII. For example:
KEY=1 TYPE=200 Opt Data=c:\tbbs\wwiii\wwiii /Q && /TURNS:0
ANSI=X
Note that a registered copy of WWIII will recognize an additional
switch, /TURNS:n, for the number of turns to allow per day. This number
defaults to 3 turns per day if you don't specify the switch; values can
range from 0 to 9, with 0 indicating unlimited plays.
4. Recompile your .SDL file to make the new menu entry available.
This completes the installation of WWIII! The program will create its own
files the first time you run it. A temporary file is created for each line
when a user reads the online documentation, but these files are quite small
and can be erased if the line is idle.
:Registration:
::::::::::::::
The unregistered demonstration version of WWIII does not allow you to use
the /TURNS: switch, and the final score for each game is not calculated, so
your players will not know whether they won or lost. Nothing else is
crippled within the demonstration version.
You may purchase WWIII from STAINLESS STEEL SOFTWARE with a check or money
order. For complete information, see the file ORDERFRM.DOC.
:Sysop Notes:
:::::::::::::
1. In the event that the database files are corrupted "beyond redemption",
simply delete all files ending in .DBF *EXCEPT* your WWIIIKEY.DBF file,
and allow WWIII to regenerate them from scratch.
2. WWIII requires TBBS 2.2 and TDBS 1.2. It also requires ANSI.

This program is respectfully dedicated to Mr. Frank Zappa - his music was
with me through most of the development of WWIII. Thanks, Frank - you're
very deeply missed.
